Paulo Coelho

He is one of the most read writers and novelists in the world with more than 200 million books sold in more than 150 countries (224 territories), translated into 81 languages.

Paulo Coelho de Souza was born on August 24 in 1947 in a small family of upper middle class and strong Catholic influence, in Rio de Janeiro. His parents were Pedro Queima Coelho de Souza and Lygia Araripe, engineer and museologist respectively.
His parents pretend that he is an engineer and that is why they try to repress his desire to devote himself to literature, which provokes a great rebellion in Paulo, who begins to disobey family norms.1 It is at seventeen when, due to "immaturity, rebellion, inability to adapt to society, irritability and radical and extremist attitudes, "is admitted to a psychiatric hospital, where he is subjected to several sessions of electroshock.1

A little later, Paulo began to interact with a theater group and to dedicate himself to journalism.3 At that time the theater was not well seen in certain social levels, that is why his parents returned to intern him.1 When he left, Paulo was still more lost and locked in your world. The family calls another psychiatrist, Dr. Fajardo, who makes a new assessment of the problem: Paulo is not crazy and will not be hospitalized; He will treat about 15 sessions with him. Thirty years after these experiences, Paulo Coelho would write a novel inspired by those years, Veronika decides to die.3
